We recruit from the community we live in. So, our mentoring begins much before someone becomes our colleague.

GS Lab maintains a strong campus connection to mentor the students and contribute the practical industry perspective to our local academic community. GS Lab engineers actively provide undergraduate final year project guidance, provide internships, and participate as judges in campus events like workshops, project exhibitions, etc.

Once an engineer joins GS Lab out of campus, she is put through a boot camp which is a training program to change the student into a professional aware and well-versed in the GS Lab discipline in 4 to 6 weeks. This program provides an excellent start to our campus hires’ careers and also provides a platform for employee integration that cuts through the levels. The boot camp has two phases:

Independent assignments monitored closely by experienced engineers help the     campus hires transition to production quality development.
In class lectures help acquire depth in basic technology areas.

When GS Lab hires an experienced person, it makes a very clear decision for matching the background as well as goals with the position description. We do not make a compromise on this fit, thus ensuring that we do not have unwilling colleagues. This provides us a launch pad for mentoring the lateral hire by telling her about GS Lab, its culture, and the future responsibilities already accepted before joining. We do this through numerous one-on-one’s, which we believe are the best form of mentoring.

GS Lab’s formal training programs are of three types.

Product: Each project lead is responsible for making sure that every new member of his product team first gets all the training required for becoming an effective member of the team with all the required basic knowledge. This training is imparted on the job, while working with the product team. This is the most efficient method for GS Lab as GS Lab’s projects are fast-paced.
Technology: In lieu of the classroom training found commonly, the experienced GS Lab engineers conduct classroom lectures dedicated to individual topics every two weeks. These topics are typically of common interest to all of GS Lab. Thanks to our focused areas of work, this method works well as there are many birds-of-a-feather.
Soft-skills: A continuous program of soft-skills training is a unique program at GS Lab. This training is conducted by renowned experts capable of appearing as role models. All employees are required to take on various roles in their teams to ensure that these skills are developed over a long period.
